It’s a bit painful that this is such a necessary solution. Eating healthy food should be one of life’s first priorities. But sadly far too often, it isn’t. So insurance company Harvard Pilgrim Health Care from Boston has partnered with supermarkets to encourage healthy shopping habits by paying consumers for buying healthy groceries. The program uses an algorithm to evaluate each store purchase and pays healthy patrons up to $20 a month for buying fruits and vegetables over snacks and candy. The insurance company aims to ultimately save costs because people who eat healthier are less likely to become expensive patients.
