Despite being surrounded by 20 percent of the world’s fresh water supply, fish farms are rare in Michigan. But with a ballooning global population expected to top 9.6 billion by 2050, expanding fish farms in The Great Lakes State could feed billions and be a lucrative business. Wild fish populations could also benefit from fish farms because fish farm waste would add beneficial nutrients to the upper Great Lakes that are nutrient deficient.
