Current carbon capturing technologies use harsh chemicals to keep carbon dioxide from escaping into the atmosphere, it’s a lesser of two evils scenario. A new carbon capturing technique might change the way we capture carbon and make it a sustainable option for offsetting emissions. Researchers have created small balls out of baking soda that capture carbon and hold it. The balls themselves can keep the carbon indefinitely, or be heated so the carbon released and the balls can be reused. The baking soda balls are a much cheaper and more effective option than current carbon capturing methods. Researchers think the science needs about 10 years of work before it is a commercially viable option.
