An astonishing experiment by a music student and his teacher at the University of Minnesota has yielded a piece for string quartet that is as hauntingly beautiful as it is moving. Their goal: giving global warming a sound representation, just as animated color maps from NASA provide a visual illustration. Both the two-minute presentation of the methodology and the 2’44’’ performance make the video well worth watching—and listening to again with closed eyes so as to let the song of the warming planet drill its pleading melody into your soul.
