Today’s Solutions: December 17, 2025

China has announced details of its climate action plan. As the world’s biggest greenhouse gas polluter, the country promises deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. Environmental groups are praising their pledge, which comes ahead of talks late this year in Paris to seek a new global deal on climate change. The proposal commits China to a peak in emissions by 2030 and an increase in the share of non-fossil fuels in its energy mix by about 20 percent by 2030. In addition, China wants a reduction in CO2 emissions, per unit of GDP, by 60 to 65% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels. A survey released earlier this month found that China leads the world in public support for government action on climate change.
