There are many pills on the market nowadays for lowering blood pressure. But researchers are more often finding conclusive results that foods can have an important function in achieving that same goal as well. A new study shows that protein-rich foods play a key role in this. And the benefits are attributed to the amino acids–the building blocks of proteins. These help strengthen the cells, tissues and muscles in our bodies. Amino acids are found in vegetables and pulses–such as beans, lentils, broccoli and spinach, but also in meat, fish, dairy produce. Eating foods rich in amino acids, researchers say, could be as good for your heart as stopping smoking or getting more exercise.
