What’s left of democracy if it’s something you can buy when you have the wealth of someone like, say, Donald Trump? To make citizens the central pillar of the political system in the U.S., campaign finance reform is essential. Harvard professor Lawrence Lessig has been addressing this issue for years. Yesterday, he announced he’s ready to run for president. In line with his ideals, he’s crowdfunding his campaign online. Once chosen in the White House, he will legislate so that moneyed individuals no longer have disproportionate power over political decision-making. Then, he’ll step down.
