While votes are still being counted, it looks like San Francisco has voted down Proposition F, which would place new limits on short-term rentals like Airbnb. The vote was closely watched as it may have inspired other places around the world to protect the hotel industry had the people of San Francisco voted yes. Airbnb has spent millions on a campaign in an effort to stop the proposition from being passed. It would have limited short-term rentals of housing units to 75 days a year, required Airbnb users to submit quarterly reports detailing when they were at home, and made it a misdemeanor to unlawfully list a house as a short-term rental.
