U.S solar is poised for not just another record year but a blowout year in the solar installations. Last year, solar set a new record with 7.3 gigawatts of total new photovoltaic capacity across residential, commercial, and utility-scale installations. According to new statistics just released by the U.S Energy Information Administration, the U.S already has 9.5 gigawatts of utility-scaled solar planned for this year alone, surpassing every other energy source in terms of capacity additions in 2016. The uprising of solar isn’t just the result of solar’s growing popularity, but also from the 30 percent solar investment tax credit that was extended late last year for the next five years. Experts say with the extended tax credit, we should continue to see big years in solar for the next five years.
