A lawsuit filed by a group of youth against the US government over climate change can go forward, as a judge ruling in Oregon dismissed motions of the federal government and oil companies. Nonprofit ‘Our Children’s Trust has filed petitions and lawsuits in every US state, alleging the government violated the constitutional rights of the next generations as it allowed CO2 emissions to continue while being aware of its effect on global warming. Last year a Dutch court ordered the Netherlands government to cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25 percent by 2020, in a case brought on behalf of 900 Dutch citizens.
