Scientists have discovered that the main psychoactive compound found in marijuana (Tetrahydrocannabinol, also known as THC) is capable of reducing the amount of harmful amyloid beta proteins that are contained within lab-grown brain neurons. Amyloid is the toxic protein known to accumulate in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. Marijuana was also shown to significantly reduce cellular inflammation that contributes to the progression of the disease.
