TransActive Grid is a small community energy market in Brooklyn, NY, that’s a test run for both the idea of a clean-energy local microgrid and the use of blockchain technology to enable its transactions. TransActive Grid is a new way to trade solar energy among neighbors. The project runs on a street between 15 households: two energy producers and 13 potential buyers. The blockchain technology—famous for the crypto currency Bitcoin—together with the microgrid allow participants to know exactly where and how much energy is being produced and where their money is going while all the benefits are being engaged in their community.
