Being self-centered is generally regarded as a bad quality to have, but that’s not what the Dalai Lama believes. In a recent interview, the Dalai Lama said that self-cherishing is part of nature, and that human beings are robots without it. However, he did go on to clarify that people should practice kindness and compassion, something science says helps people feel healthy, prosperous and happy. So don’t forget, it’s OK to be self-centered from time to time. Just don’t forget to be compassionate to the people in your life as well.
