More than a century later, the country has gone an entire day without using coal-produced power for the first time since it was introduced. An entire day without coal marks the great progress that the UK has made in weaning off the dirty fossil fuel. In 2015, coal accounted for 22 percent of the country’s power generation. Now that number stands at less than 10 percent.
