Google has outlined a four-step approach to combatting pro-terrorism content online. To start, the tech giant is pouring more energy into machine learning research that could improve its ability to automatically remove terrorist videos while keeping innocently-posted clips online. Google will expand its counter-radicalization system as well, which shows anti-extremist ads to would-be recruits. The number of humans in its YouTube Trusted Flagger program will also be greatly increased to sort through growing amounts of content. If a video is found to instigate religious or supremacist hate, it will be prevented from getting ad revenue, comments or viewing recommendations, striking a balance between free speech and public safety.
