Europe is increasingly looking at opportunities to generate solar energy in the Sahara desert in northern Africa and transmit the power through underwater cables to Italy and France. The solar potential of the Sahara is huge. Recently we reported on Morocco’s initiative to build the world’s largest solar plant. Now a new Tunisian project aims to produce 4.5 gigawatts of power in the Sahara desert.
