US credit bureaus don’t recognize foreign credit, so when people come to this country, they have to start building their credit over again. This isn’t fair to immigrants, which is why a startup has created a platform to translate data stored abroad into a form that can be consumed by banks, telephone companies, and landlords in the US. So far, the startup has reached deals with 15 countries to create a “credit passport” that allows immigrants to bring their financial history with them.
