And while washing apples off with tap water is the simplest way to rid of these pesticides, it is not very effective. Research shows adding a little baking soda to water leads to the most-effective cleaning. Peeling your fruit also helps, but by doing so will deprive you of valuable fiber, vitamins and minerals found in the skin.
