Greenhouses that grow food are good. Solar panels are great. Put them together, and you have a match made in heaven. In California, researchers have created ‘smart greenhouses’ that can capture solar energy for electricity without reducing plant growth. These innovative solar greenhouses generate energy at less costs than traditional photovoltaic systems by embedding a bright magenta dye into the roof panels, which allows the panels to absorb strong wavelengths of light while letting other wavelengths pass through to the plants below.
