Stockton, California is planning to launch the first US experiment in universal basic income. The 27-year-old mayor of the city learned about it in college and believes it’s one to help rehabilitate a city that declared bankruptcy in 2012. The plan is set to begin sometime in August and will involve at least 100 people of varying income levels getting $500 a month for three years.
