Carbon capture technology will be a central piece of any realistic plan for addressing the growing dangers of climate change. That’s why it’s great news that researchers have invented a novel carbon-capturing substance that is 24 percent more energy efficient than existing methods. The technology consists of a liquid sorbent which binds CO2 molecules to it and then crystallizes into a solid bicarbonate salt. After enough has been collected, the CO2 is extracted and sent off for storage or use. What’s more, the sorbent can be used over and over unlike other sorbents. Although there are some kinks that need to be fixed before the technology can be scaled, it does represent a major step forward in making carbon capture a viable option for reducing emissions
