Today’s Solutions: December 18, 2025

Your mother probably told you when you were a kid that going to bed with a wet head of hair will make you come down with a cold. Or maybe she told you that wet hair will make your pillow a hub for bacteria. These are both common beliefs, but are they true? According to the experts, going to bed right after you take a shower won’t make you sick. Sure, your head may get a little chilled, but science shows you can’t catch a cold from being cold. As for the bacteria myth, having wet hair won’t suddenly make illness-causing bacteria and viruses to appear spontaneously—all it will do is make your pillows a bit damp. In fact, the only reason you should avoid going to bed with wet hair is that it’s not good for your hair; the water can degrade a hair’s protective outer layer and lead to breakages as well as a loss of shine and elasticity.
