If teens are using technology to connect with others, why can’t the elderly do the same. That’s the idea behind a new app called Join Papa, which allows senior citizens to summon “on-demand grandkids” in the same way you would order food on Seamless or a car on Uber. The app pays college-age young people $10 per hour to help seniors by shopping, doing housework, or just hanging out. One insurer, Humana, has even experimented with a pilot program in Florida that includes ten hours of week on Join Papa. At a time where the elderly population is growing rapidly thanks to the aging baby boomers, apps like this that enable human contact could be more important than ever.
