As more and more people become concerned with the effects of air pollution on the body, a wave of new skincare products have emerged that promise to combat harmful particles associated with air pollution. These products work by cleansing the skin from nanoparticles that are absorbed from the air or by creating a protective barrier that acts as a shield against pollutants. But just how effective are anti-pollution skincare products? A lot of the anti-pollution skincare products feature vitamin C as the main ingredient, which helps combat dark spots linked to pollution—and decreases discoloration. Another common ingredient in these types of products are antioxidants, many of which are actually backed by science. The problem is these products have not been around long enough for scientists to study their effectiveness over time. That doesn’t mean they don’t work, but more studies need to be done to prove just how effective they are in creating a pollution barrier for your skin. Considering that scientists have linked air pollution to skin-related problems, it might be a good idea to look into these products to protect your skin.
