Today’s Solutions: December 21, 2024

It’s no surprise that food packaging carries a lot of toxins that shouldn’t be so close to our food. PFAs chemicals (perfluoroalkyl substances), also known as “forever chemicals”, are used to repel moisture in packaging for typically oily and fatty foods. Unfortunately, they are also linked to cancer, cholesterol, and fertility issues. Several PFAs chemicals, such as PFOS and PFOA, are drawing the attention of the United States Environmental Protection Agency who has flagged them as emerging concerns.

Denmark will soon become the first country to ban PFAs chemicals, leading the way to safer food packaging and, by default, healthier food options. PFAs chemicals can also be found in nonstick pans, cleaning products, paints, and several other household items, and we urge you to avoid these as much as possible. With Denmark taking the first step in regulating the harsh chemicals on a federal level, exposure to PFAs chemicals will soon decline for the country and, hopefully, the rest of the world.
