While this year’s Golden Globes Awards ceremony, which took place this weekend, wasn’t too different than those of previous years – with similar dazzling fashions, golden statues, and acceptance speeches – the celebration did make history with one particular aspect: it became the first major awards show to go vegan.
Only two weeks ago, the previewed menu was set to feature the customary sea bass course, but a last-minute switch changed the course to feature 100 percent plant-based fare in an effort to “raise environmental awareness about food consumption and waste,” according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which hosts the annual glittery event.
The dinner began with a chilled golden beet soup and continued with king oyster mushrooms cooked to resemble scallops, served on wild mushroom risotto alongside roasted baby purple carrots, Brussels sprouts, and pea tendrils. The dessert was a vegan version of an opera cake.
Yes, we know it’s not that big of a deal that a huge group of celebrities ate a vegan dinner, but the reality is that people do get inspired and influenced by celebrities. If celebrities are converting to vegan diets, it might just motivate their fans to do so too.
