Even when we feel satisfied personally and professionally, it’s difficult not to compare ourselves to others around us, but judging our own success on the achievements of others more often leaves us feeling disappointed, rather than inspired. Today we share three strategies to shift your mindset away from comparison.
First, choose an experience that takes your mind away from comparison. Rather than focusing on what others are doing, put that energy towards facilitating positive outcomes for yourself, based on your own goals. Come up with an affirmation to repeat when you find yourself dwelling in comparison and choose to focus on actions and thoughts that will bring you peace.
Next, get moving! We often turn to comparison when we feel stagnant, so what better way to solve this than to get moving (literally!). Get out and move your body with a long walk, a dance around the kitchen to your favorite song, yoga, swimming, or anything else that takes you out of a negative headspace.
Lastly, remember to practice gratitude. When we compare ourselves to others, we’re forgetting all our own accomplishments. Create a daily habit of reflecting on the achievements and love in your own life as well as all the positive results to come from the hard work you’re putting in right now.
Comparison is something we’ve all been guilty of, but rather than getting caught up in it, recognize when you’re comparing yourself to others and take tangible action to reverse this thinking. And remember, it’s all relative. Even the most successful people in the world have moments of doubt, jealousy, and comparison.
