For far too long, employers have used a woman’s previous salary as an excuse for paying her less than a man. No longer will that be possible after a US appeals court ruled that employers cannot justify paying a woman less than a man doing similar work based on her salary history—a move, advocates say, will help close the wage gap between the sexes.
