The deceptively simple solution to ridding of poverty and lessening inequality is universal basic income (UBI). Just transfer enough money to everyone, every month, to guarantee a basic livelihood. The policy is universal and unconditional (you get it no matter who you are or what you do.) The only thing is, wouldn’t transferring, let’s say, $1,000 to every person in the population every month be extremely expensive? Surprisingly not.
