Every year, about one-third of the global food supply ends up spoiled, which is not only a major financial waste but also a disaster for the environment as greenhouse gasses come from rotten food. To put the severity of this issue in numbers, a consultancy group has put out a report identified five key “stops” along the path from food production to consumption that would save food from getting wasted while saving an astounding $700 billion for everyone in the supply chain. The report shows that just by taking some commonsense steps, we could put an end to food waste and save nearly a trillion dollars.
