After a long day working, commuting, eating, sleeping, and doing housework, more often than not you’re left with just a couple of hours of free time at night. All too often we get in the habit of spending these precious hours of down time watching TV or fiddling with our phones. Time management coach Elizabeth Grace Saunders encourages you to achieve truly rewarding free time by planning activities that relax and satisfy you, rather than just mentally checking out. Here are her 5 recommendations for doing more with your time off:

  1. Plan your downtime in advance – scheduling activities will help you follow through with them and organize your day
  2. Prep for action – prep your gym bag, write down a shopping list, or make a dinner reservation!
  3. Do what satisfies – reflect on what activities really bring you joy and peace
  4. Double the benefit – plan activities you can do with friends or a significant other to hit two birds with one stone
  5. Increase your sense of time – pick a couple different activities to treat yourself to so it feels like you did more with less time
