Who says working 8 hours a day, five days a week is the best way for everyone to work? The fact of the matter is the 8-hour workday is arbitrary, and the structure itself has become a relic of a past time. Science itself would agree that this manner of structuring the work week has become ineffective. So, what does science say is the best way to structure your day? According to a recent study, the ideal way is to break your workday down into strategic hourly intervals. Planning your day around hour-long intervals simplifies daunting tasks by breaking them down into manageable pieces. To make this work, it’s necessary to respect the hour and to avoid distractions at all costs while you work to reach peak focus. Then, when the hour is through, take fifteen minutes or so to get some real rest. Get away from your computer, and simply take a walk or chat with a colleague. After that, you can continue with another hour of work. You’ll see that your productivity will be much higher and that the work you would usually get done in eight hours can be reduced to just a few hours.
