Britain’s Glastonbury Festival is one of the most iconic music festivals in the world, hosting over 200,000 visitors each year. If you’re old enough to remember, acts like The Kinks, Van Morrison and Felt Kuti all the stage of Glastonbury back in the 1970s. And while it’s always been a trendsetter when it comes to music, it may soon be the same when it comes to the environment as the festival’s upcoming edition will feature no plastic bottles. Festivals, in general, tend to encourage the use of lots of single-use plastic, which is a nightmare for the planet. Glastonbury 2019, however, will see a site-wide ban on all plastic bottles, with the organizers planning to supply festival-goers with alternatives. It’s an enormous project for any festival organizer to undertake, but hopefully, it will motivate other festivals to follow in Glastonbury’s footsteps.
