Today’s Solutions: December 16, 2025

With more and more evidence pointing towards the major threat climate change poses to our global society, even oil companies are beginning to realize the risks involved and the need for urgent action. Just recently, Eni – a major oil and gas company in Italy – has committed itself to eliminate all carbon dioxide emissions from its oil and gas production operations by the end of the next decade, in part by planting forests on a large scale. The Italian giant aims at planting 20 million acres of forest in Africa, which should remove about 20 million tons of CO2 annually from the atmosphere by 2030. Beyond forests, Eni has invested heavily in converting two of its crude oil refineries in Italy to use vegetable oils instead. The company’s commendable initiative is the latest example of major oil companies bowing to pressure and doing more to prevent runaway climate change.
