Although festivals can be good fun, for some reason people tend to treat festival grounds with reckless abandon, leaving plastic waste all over the place. The world famous Glastonbury Festival in England has banned all single-use plastic bottles earlier this year to help combat the problem, and now the city of Prague has upped the ante by banning all single-use plastics from being used at all festivals and events sponsored by the city. That means that beyond festivals, any artistic or cultural event that gets support from the city will have to find eco-friendly ways to serve people. The ban comes in the form of a particular clause that will be featured in all events contracts, which prevents any food or beverage from being sold in or with disposable plastics. Officials of Prague say this is the “way that a modern city like Prague has to go.” We agree.
