You probably don’t think a lot about bed-linen waste, but according to a recent survey, it accounts for 10-million tons of the textile waste that ends up in US landfills. The good news is New York homeware brand Buffy has launched a comforter that uses natural eucalyptus pulp for its case, stuffing and threading, meaning its fully biodegradable and suitable for vegans.

One of the great ecological benefits of using eucalyptus is that it requires 10 times less water than cotton. In fact, Buffy claims to have helped conserve over 100,000,000 gallons of water to date, by using a significantly less resource-intensive material. The brand also claims the eucalyptus fabric is naturally softer than cotton, as well as being antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory. Buffy isn’t the only brand that is creating plant-based versions of everyday household products. Other recent plant-based designs include shoes made from pineapple leaf fibers and palm leather rugs.
