Today’s Solutions: November 25, 2024

If you’re looking for some solid evidence to back the potential that renewables have to replace fossil fuels, consider this: For the first time in industrialized American history, green energy sources supplied more energy than coal.

The feat was achieved in the month of April, when clean energy such as solar and wind provided 23 percent of US electricity generation, compared with coal’s 20 percent, according to new federal government data. This represents the first time coal has been surpassed by energy sources that do not release pollution such as planet-heating gases. The achievement comes amid pledges from the local governments of states like New York and California to completely phase out the use of fossil fuels and marks a monumental shift in the way the world’s biggest energy consumer produces its power.
