With increasing social awareness about the plastic menace that has befallen upon the world, more and more companies are kneeling down to social pressure and are gradually moving away from single-use plastics.

The latest instance comes from soft drink giants Coca-Cola and PepsiCo which have recently announced they are cutting ties with a trade association representing the plastic industry over concerns their memberships contradict their public commitment to reducing waste. Both companies said they are set to leave the Plastics Industry Association as they seek to dramatically reduce single-use plastics in their products and packaging. The move follows pressure from environmental group Greenpeace, which has continuously urged all companies to reduce their plastic footprint and eventually eliminate single-use plastics.

The Plastics Industry Association has previously lobbied for states to prohibit banning plastic bag usage and imposing restrictions on other plastics across the country. While the move may help reassure some customers, companies like Pepsi and Coca-Cola will have to go a whole lot further to find a solution to this urgent problem.
