2019 marks the 55th edition of The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, which is hosted by the Natural History Museum in London.
This year’s contest included some 50,000 entries, which were submitted by both professional and amateur photographers from around the globe and feature some stunning – and gut-wrenching – images. And, although the winners will only be announced midway through October, the Natural History Museum did us nature-lovers a favor and released a selection of highly commended images online that you will be sure to enjoy.
From animals fighting for their lives to the subtle beauty of a bird drinking from an icicle, these photographs are nothing short of remarkable. If you’re curious to see them for yourself, take a look right here.
