Since bees pollinate almost a third of our world’s crops, the alarming trend of bee populations in decline over the past few decades indicates ecological disaster in the works.
In order to prevent such a devastating scenario, campaigners in the UK came up with an ingenious idea of giving away bee-friendly wildflower seeds to customers in supermarkets. Since July, more than 330,000 seed balls have been given out as part of the Backyard Nature campaign. Now British families are set to plant some 15 million wildflower seeds in the upcoming weeks, in a drive to support and grow bee populations across the country.
The Backyard Nature campaign also aims to galvanize communities and empower young people to act as Nature Guardians for their patch, in a bid to help them connect with the environment and their own ability to make a difference through personal action.
