Card games are a staple of any summer camp, rainy day, or family pizza night, but for those who are visually impaired, participating in conventional card games can be a challenge. However, Mattel is hoping to change this with alterations to its color-coordinated card game Uno.
The company has partnered with the National Federation of the Blind to make their beloved card game more accessible to all. The new version, named Uno Braille, will feature braille on the corner of each playing card to denote the number and color, as well as downloadable braille instructions.
For the 7 million Americans with blindness or low vision, this is about more than being able to play a family favorite; it’s about advocating for inclusion and promoting the normalcy of braille.
