Today’s Solutions: January 04, 2025

As plastic pollution becomes ever more ubiquitous each year, China – one of the biggest contributors to the problem – is set to introduce a ban on all non-degradable plastic bags and single-use straws in its major cities.

By the end of the year, the country is expected to ban the production and sale of disposable foam and plastic tableware, often used for takeout, and single-use plastic straws used in the catering industry.

Also, according to the plan, all towns and cities across the country must reduce the consumption of single-use plastic items in the restaurant industry by 30 percent – a move that’s expected to put a dent in the vast amount of plastic plaguing its surrounding environment.

Seeing that China is the biggest producer of plastics in the world, it’s hard to overstate the importance of this move for the environment.
