Today’s Solutions: November 21, 2024

The Hummer was once the poster boy of wasteful, resource-intensive transportation. With its clunky size and low gas mileage, the Hummer had a reputation of being one of the least environmentally-friendly vehicles on the market, which is part of the reason they went out of production a decade ago.

But the story doesn’t end there. The oversized vehicle that no one wanted to see back on the streets is, in fact, back. This time, however, it’s an all-electric Hummer.

The new model still has four-wheel-drive and is powered by three electric motors for a total of 1,000 horsepower. The truck will be able to drive 350 miles on a single charge and also has improved handling and off-roading capabilities. For adventurous drivers, the battery packs are protected by a steel plate to keep them safe during rough rides.

The truck was pushed from conception to production in just two years. Although a new model will cost you over $110,000, GM plans to produce a slightly less powerful model for $80,000 in 2024.

There are arguably better, more affordable EVs to choose from than the battery-powered Hummer, but if even the most infamous gas-guzzlers are going electric, then the electric vehicle revolution is truly upon us.
