Today’s Solutions: November 21, 2024

According to FitBit data, the number of people who meditate rose 2,900 percent between March and September of this year. With exercise facilities shut down and extra stress on mental health, many people are turning to meditation to cope with the impacts of the pandemic. If you want to take up meditation, it can be helpful to make your space more conducive to your practice. Today we share some meditation space essentials from Well+Good.

  1. Meditation seat. As many people practice meditation seated on the ground, a pillow or seat is great for maintaining comfort and proper posture. Look around your home for a flat pillow, cushion, or even just a folded yoga mat.
  2. Essential oils. Essential oils add ambiance to your meditation practice and each is associated with specific benefits. Seeking relaxation? Opt for lavender. If you want energy and better digestion, peppermint is a great choice. Some people use diffusers to spread the oils, but dabbing them on your wrists or sprinkling them around your space will do the trick too!
  3. Candles. Some people choose to meditate in darkness, but candles can provide the soothing dim light source that is perfect for quieting your mind but still being able to see your surroundings. Like essential oils, their different smells can add emphasized positive benefits to your practice.

Although these items can help get you into a comfortable meditation mindset, they are by no means necessary to practice meditation. Meditation can be done anywhere or anytime as long as you have the intention to quiet your mind. That being said, these tools can help amplify your practice and even make it more enjoyable. If you’re looking to upgrade your meditation space, these are great items to start with!
