Today’s Solutions: November 22, 2024

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced this week that press briefings will be getting an inclusive upgrade with the addition of an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter at every briefing.

The first signed briefing took place last Monday with an interpreter, identified as Heather, signing in an additional screen alongside Psaki. “The president is committed to building an America that is more inclusive, more just, and more accessible for every American,” said Psaki.

The current administration was commended by accessibility advocates previously for including an ASL Pledge of Allegiance recitation during the presidential inauguration.

ASL interpreters have become more common at live concerts, political events, and even the Superbowl halftime show. The presence of ASL translators makes critical announcements and information available to a wider range of citizens and media professionals.
