If you’re a parent of older children, you likely have a box full of once-beloved dolls and matchbox cars taking up space in your attic. Fortunately, there’s a new eco-friendly way to rehome these toys with the announcement of Mattel’s new toy recycling program.
Toy giant Mattel is the parent company of many brands including Barbie, Matchbox, and MEGA toys. Their new program, called Mattel PlayBack, will accept old toys from customers in the US, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK. Material from the old toys will be used to make new products for the next generation of young toy-lovers.
The initiative is part of Mattel’s sustainability pledge to switch to all recyclable materials for Matchbox products and packaging by 2030.
