Today’s Solutions: November 21, 2024

Have you ever noticed that characters in your favorite movies and TV shows tend to use a lot of single-use plastics? Whether it’s a busy professional grabbing a cup of coffee on the go or an athlete drinking out of a plastic water bottle, modern media definitely normalizes the consumption of plastics. Given that media is such an influential force, one organization, Habits of Waste is trying to end the presence of single-use plastics in TV and movies.

Through their “Lights, Camera, Plastic?” campaign, Habits of Waste is encouraging producers, directors, and actors to advocate for highlighting reusable options on the screen. They’ve created downloadable resources for productions aiming to go waste-free as well as shared resources for directors, designers, news correspondents, and other industry members to share ideas on plastic-free filming.

Habits of Waste founder Sheila Morovati tells GreenMatters, “We’re here to disrupt that cycle and contact all the guilds and let everyone who makes up the magic of Hollywood understand that what they put on the screen matters and is impacting our planet.”
