Today’s Solutions: December 04, 2024

This is a statistic we really want to see going down. Being outside in some of China’s polluted cities can be worse for your health than smoking cigarettes. The main contributor to China’s notorious pollution is the incessant burning of coal. Coal is also a major contributor to the fast-rising carbon emissions that drive climate change. Now for the first time this century, the amount of coal being burned is falling. According to a Greenpeace analysis, China’s coal use through the first three quarters of this year is down between one to two percent from last year. That’s in sharp contrast with the five to ten percent annual growth rates of the past decade. Good news for China; good news for the world.
