Crying can be therapeutic. That could be the conclusion of new research. An hour and a half after shedding tears, participants in the study reported feeling even better than they did before they had reason to cry. “This is the first study that has demonstrated a clear relation between experimentally induced crying and subsequent, more long-term mood improvement,” wrote lead researcher Asmir Gračanin of Tilburg University in the Netherlands. So, next time you’re feeling bad, don’t hold back the tears!
