Do you love spicy food? If so, we have some good news for you. Scientists have found that hot sauce is extremely beneficial to your health. This is thanks to the active ingredient in peppers, capsaicin, which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer effects. In a paper published recently looking at half a million Chinese adults, those who ate spicy foods three or more times a week had a 14% reduced risk of death compared to those who didn’t as much spicy foods. The scientists stress that you make sure to buy hot sauce that actually contains peppers, and to look out for sweetened sauces like sriracha, and other hot sauces that contain added sugars or too much sodium.
